Robert Winburn has served as pastor of Spring Valley since 1989. After graduating from Wofford College in 1974, he went on to complete his Master of Divinity degree in 1977 and his Doctor of Divinity degree in 1986 from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His passion in ministry is preaching and teaching to see lives transformed by the power of the gospel.

Robert has served on various leadership positions at both the state and associational levels. As a trustee of Anderson University, he chaired the search committee for the current president. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoys hunting, golf, and reading.

Robert and his wife Cookie have been married since 1975. Cookie spent twenty two years working in Richland Two and was the 2005 SC Teacher of the Year.  Currently she is on faculty at the University of South Carolina.  She teaches a young couples Bible study on Sunday mornings, a Life Class on Wednesday nights, and leads seminars for engaged couples.  They enjoy entertaining in their home with Dinner with the Pastor and other church events.  They have four children and five grandchildren. Lara Beth is married to Jay Hardwick, pastor of Awaken Church in Columbia. They are the parents to Molly, Ellie and Caroline. Andrew is married to Meagan and is pastor of Generation Church in Columbia.  Emily Ann is married to Philip Turner, pastor of First Baptist Wagener in South Carolina. They are the parents to Manning and Wyatt.  Sara Lynn, a graduate of Anderson University, currently works for the Student Ministry Department of the SC Baptist Convention and is a volunteer in the children's ministry at Generation Church.  She will be attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary starting in January 2012.
