Rick is a graduate of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (D. Min.), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.A.), Louisiana Baptist University (M.A.), and the University of South Carolina (B.A.).  Since 1976, Rick has directed music in church ministry in South Carolina, North Carolina and Texas.  He is now in his 14th year as Minister of Music and Worship at Spring Valley Baptist Church.

Rick's passion is to activate the musical and creative arts giftedness within every individual.  The music and creative arts ministry has grown over 50% under Rick's leadership including the addition of 13 music and creative arts groups. Nearly half of the entire congregation is involved in the music and creative arts ministry at Spring Valley Baptist Church.

All in the McCollum family are involved in music.  Rick's wife Christi, who is a professional educator in the Richland II School District, sings in the Praise Choir and also plays the piano.  Their son Alex is a vocal music major at the University of South Carolina and plays the guitar in the Praise Combo.  Their daughter Emily plays guitar in the Praise Orchestra and leads the student ministry Outbreak Band.

When not leading in ministry, Rick enjoys spending time with his family, collecting rare hymnals and working in the yard.
